Welcome Back!!!

I believe I will start off with our fun activities!  Last Friday we had a "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Day!"  Our kinder friends were able to create their lovely Chicka, Chicka Trees, conduct a classroom experiment, and to top it off we were able to go bowling in the classroom!

Here are our lovely Chicka, Chicka Trees!

We were able to see a real coconut and made an educated guess on whether or not a coconut would sink or float.  These were the results of our hypothesis.  Of course, the coconut floated!

Please forgive the side view...working out kinks.

We were able to try coconut water and coconut cookie balls.  Once everyone completed the taste test we graphed what we liked and what we disliked.  Check out these results!

Please forgive the side view...working out kinks.

We were also able to try a little sight word bowling.  Each pin had a sight word or letter on it.  Students had to read the pins they knocked down.  This was the highlight of our day!

We have also been working a lot in our interactive reading journals.  Last weeks focus was on Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.  One of our questions was about problem solving.  Students were asked what could the letters do to keep themselves from getting hurt.  There responses were pretty grand!
"The letters should jump onto a trampoline so they won't get hurt."
I also wanted to share some pictures of art work and brain work!

Finally, I would like to end with a shout out to the "Blue Wave" team at our school (the maintenance crew).  They work so hard throughout the year to help keep our church/school campus flowing in excellence!  I thought they deserved a little treat....

Until next time.....

Events, Events, and More Events!

Grandparents Day

March was a very busy month for us!  We were hard at work and had plenty of events to keep us from becoming a bit "schooled out."  Grandparents Day was a big hit!  Because our school is so small we were able to open this event up to any and all family members!  Boy, did we have a turn out!  Our wonderful Music teacher organized a Grandparents Day tribute through, music and mini plays.
Afterwords, grandparents came back up to the classroom to receive the gifts our students worked so hard on and to enjoy a beautiful performance of "What A Wonderful World" in sign language!

Here are some of the wonderful grandparents, aunties, uncles, moms, and dads that joined us!

Fifth Grade Buddy Reading

Now this was a wonderfully impromptu event!  I loved, loved, loved it!  One morning, our fifth grade teacher had an emergency situation she had to tend to and needed someone to help watch her class.  Well, fifth grade ended up in the kindergarten room and as soon as that happened, I knew what needed to be done! Each fifth grader picked a kinder to read to.  Then we switched and had some kinders read to their fifth grade partner!  We all had a blast!  Check it out:

Zoo/Dinosaur Exhibit

Our zoo has decided to add on a temporary dinosaur exhibit with robotic dinosaurs.  Now, pair that up with our zoo field trip and our current report writing about dinosaurs and of course, we all had to check it out!  Boy, oh boy!  We had so much fun!  There were dinosaurs that spit water as you walked by, which gave us all a startle the first time it happened.  There, were feathered dinosaurs, winged dinosaurs, and others we had no idea about!  This field trip was an awesome lead into our report writing!

That's all for now!

Until next time........

2nd Quarter Update!!

 December

We have had so much fun in the month of December!  We set up our classroom Christmas tree, which came with the gift of literature.  Each day we unwrapped a small gift under the tree (which just so happened to be a lovely Christmas story).  We enjoyed a good book and a deeper understanding of the true meaning of Christmas!  We also worked together to create this lovely Christmas wreath for our classroom door!

Sweet Pete's Field Trip

Our Sweet Pete's field trip was like a real live walk through a candy factory!  We had sooooo much fun!  The students made their own candy canes, conducted a science experiment, read a really funny book, and they were even able to see the actual candy factory in action.  The atmosphere felt very magical and I even felt like a little kid again!

Classroom Activities!!

We also had a great time making gingerbread houses, pine cone ornaments and other arts and crafts!

These lovelies were in icing heaven as they made these deliciously gorgeous gingerbread houses.  They all did such a wonderful job working independently, creating their own fancy schmancy designs.  I must give a shout out to Mrs.Ryan, the first grade teacher.  She gave the tip of using a hot glue gun to keep the graham crackers secure on the milk cartons.  That little tip saved lots of tears and made this gingerbread house activity the smoothest by far!  Thanks Mrs. Ryan!!!

Finally, I would be remiss if I didn't thank all of the parents that helped make this month so much fun with all of their awesome donations!  Thank you parents!  I must also thank Mrs. Holloman for giving her time and gifts to all of us in Mrs. Williams Kindergarten Class!

The class showed lots of love and gratitude to Mrs. Holloman for all of her help and special gifts!

November / October

I will honestly say that the months of October and November are entangled in my mind.  Part of that is because I got married on October 18, 2015 to this awesome man!  Whoop! Whoop!

However, we still had an awesome couple of months in the classroom!
In November, we had fun reading about "The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything"
and conducting a sequence of events activity to go with it.  Each table had to race together  as a team to place the story in order.  They had lots of fun!

Team Work!

Our school also hosted a beautiful Thanksgiving lunch,in which all of the parents and loved ones were invited out to eat with us!

We also had a little fun of our own with our procedural writing activity.  We wrote about how to make pizza and then.......well, of course we had to make it ourselves!

Delicious!

In October we had an awesome field trip experience at Conner's Amazing Acres!  We went through a maze, fed some cows, learned about the farm life, and did a lot of running around!

Phew!  Now we should be all caught up!

Until next time......
